The Applied Anthropologist

The High Plains Society for Applied Anthropology has published some version of a professional bulletin or journal since its inception. For many years the journal was called The High Plains Applied Anthropologist; in 2005 this was changed to simply The Applied Anthropologist, recognizing its appeal to academics and practitioners both within and beyond the High Plains region.

In fact, the journal publishes articles from authors throughout the U.S. and beyond, on many aspects of applied anthropology and related fields. In addition to research articles, we publish shorter notes describing research projects; book reviews (including multiple reviews with author responses); and commentaries.

For more information on the journal, please contact the TAA Editorial team at appliedanthropologist@gmail.com or hpsfaa@gmail.com.

Call For Submissions

We encourage practitioners, students, community members, and faculty from all disciplines to submit articles. The Applied Anthropologist is published twice each year, in the spring and fall. It is peer-reviewed and professionally edited and produced. The Editor-in-Chief and two anonymous peers review each submission prior to its acceptance for publication.

In addition to research and thematic articles, we feature commentaries and reviews, including invited book reviews in which several individuals review a book and the author responds to those reviews. For inquiries about a possible article topic, book or video review idea, or theme issue, please contact the Editorial team at appliedanthropologist@gmail.com.

To submit an article for consideration in TAA, email it as a Word or Pages file to the Editorial team. Please read and follow The Applied Anthropologist Author's Guidelines before submitting articles. All manuscripts must be received in electronic form to be considered for review and publication. The Editorial team will contact the author with questions or to provide further information if needed.

If you are interested in reviewing manuscripts for the journal, or editing a thematic issue, please contact the Editorial team with a brief email explaining your interests, experience, or proposal.

You do not have to be a member of HPSfAA to submit a manuscript for consideration. Whether or not you submit a manuscript, however, we encourage you to join HPSfAA.
