Empowerment evaluation is an approach to evaluation that places the primary responsibility for the pursuit of quality in the program staff and participants’ hands. It is specifically designed to help program staff members and participants learn to recognize quality and represent it in their programs. This discussion presents an overview about empowerment evaluation and in the process highlights the role of the evaluation coach in helping people assess and improve the quality of their programs. In addition, this discussion highlights the fundamental role of the group in conducting a self-evaluation.
