Conferences & Meetings

This blog is for announcements of conferences, workshops and meetings in fields that would be of likely interest to our members, including applied anthropology, health, the environment, community development, etc. Most HPSfAA members are from the western states, notably Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, but we welcome postings from other geographic regions if they meet the criteria above. Please be sure to provide contact information, deadlines, and other important information in your announcement. Note that you must be a member to add new postings. If you are not a member but wish to add an announcement, please contact the webmaster.

Note: It is the poster's responsibility to ensure that the material in their post is formatted properly, and that all posted links (including email address or URL) are working properly. Use the "Link" button in the tool bar above the page to add active links if needed. You should also delete your posting when any deadline passes, or if the opportunity is no longer available. Attached files are not allowed.

This is not a site for commercial advertising. Postings that advertise good or services will be removed.

    Hello Colleagues:

I hope you've all had a wonderful semester.  On behalf of Alisse Ali-Joseph and myself, we'd like to remind you that deadline for  the Call for Papers for the 2016 Western Social Science Association has been extended to December 8th, 2015.  We hope to see everyone in Reno.

As some of you know, American Indian Studies has always been one of the larger sections, and we'd like it to remain that way this year.   Please encourage other colleagues in your institutions to send in abstracts.

Also, we'd like to remind you to encourage your students to enter the Vine Deloria, Jr. Student Paper Competition (flyer attached).  The winner of the competition receives a $500 prize.  There is no travel award currently for this paper competition, so the student must cover their own travel expenses if they attend the conference.  However, there is no requirement to attend--so students may enter the competition without attending the conference.

One final reminder--this year is the first year that WSSA is requiring participants to submit abstracts through the WSSA web portal, instead of sending them directly to section chairs.  If you've already sent yours directly to either Alisse or myself, we'll do our best to fill in the appropriate information and submit it through the web portal for you.  However, for those of you who still haven't submitted your abstract, please use the portal, and please don't forget about the deadline!  Here's a link to the WSSA's web page for conference information http://www.wssaweb.com/conferences.html

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact one of us!

Best wishes and we can't wait to see everyone!

    Karen and Alisse
